Another blinder, full of good stuff
Articles
* The first
article is an answer to a reader's call, with Peter Nussbaum supplying plenty of Samurai figurines following a
request in an earlier issue, with warriors illustrated from Papo, Plastoy, Dragon-DML (CanDo),
Furuta (F-Toys), Publius and Technolog among others.
* Gerald Edward's follows-up on his own
previous article on Crescent premiums
with more on Daz and the addition of
both Tide-branded and unmarked/generic
versions.
* 'Lefties' is another follow-up, an
editorial this time, with more on left-handed figures, there's loads! One being
Lone Star's Sheriff of Nottingham -
it struck me that most of the set are left handed one way or another? Britains, Cherilea, Crescent, Marx and Timpo also provide.
* Some metal
sneaks-in to the magazine, but interesting nevertheless in Daniel Lepers' find of an unusual version of Lone Star army lorry, he wonders if a component is original, I
wonder if it's designed for hooking small shark, it looks vicious! If you're
wondering what I'm going on about, you need to subscribe - details below.
* Some interesting
premiums are studied with Paul
Stadinger's look at New Zealander's from Sanitarium.
* An in-depth
look at some recent production comes courtesy of Tom Stark who investigates two sets of Indians from Publius; an older set of Pawnee and the
newer Sioux set.
* Dan Morgan (who makes
the display models for Peter Cole's Replicants) shows us a model of The Bell
Inn he made for Thetford's Ancient House Museum, using Replicants figures to populate it and including the Thomas Paine
character sculpt. As an aside the editor points out that several Paine's were
hidden about the museum for children to spot as they toured the exhibits.
* 'Converters Corner' has Les White producing troops for both
sides in the WWI campaigning in East Africa, as always - they are very good,
and all based on AIP's Boar War
infantry.
* Yours truly
has a small piece at the end, commissioned from the editor, on China's 4M, covered on the Blog, the piece has
[mostly!] new images.
* Finally - Andreas Dittmann has a fascinating look
at a French board game, themed around Davy Crockett and branded to CapiƩra, with four 54mm figures.
Regular Features
* 'NEWS and VIEWS and other stuff ' is
mostly editorial housekeeping this month, but a pair of glasses were found at
May's show if you're missing them and there are some back-issues of PW38 going on a first-come, first
served basis.
* 'What The !&*$?' has an equestrian
feel to the first section with various mounted figures to ID for Eric Critchly and Andreas Dittmann; over the page Brian Carrick seeks information on a very unusual figure, and Barney Brown is looking for help with
three French figures.
* 'Readers Letters' includes
·
Brain Carrick and Barry
Blood both feedback on Robinson Crusoe
·
Steve Weston reminisces on Tom
Smith
·
I. Wraite . . . writes!
·
Philip Hamilton reminds readers that the Hamilton Collection unlocked its doors for the
Summer season on 1st April
·
While identification/information on previous 'What The !&*$?'s comes from Richard Lewis, Kent Sprecher, Andreas
Dittmann, Juan Hermida and Daniel Lepers
* 'What's New' covers recent releases from
. . .
·
Engineer Basevitch - Early Slav Warriors
·
Annonymous - Vikings & Ancient Greeks
. . . all supplied by and available from Steve Weston (Weston Toy Soldiers)
Plus all the usual small-ads
