He's also been barred from his 'local' for
an apparent hit-and-run - on the landlord's car - and been covered in flavoured
milkshake! Meanwhile his belief in democracy doesn't extend to Channel
4 and he won't answer questions on his desire to close the NHS;
it's all from the book according to Trump.

PW News
Off the back of the show two weeks ago were
two new 'Specials', one on Speedwell
which I will do a review of when I return to full Blogging, and another (above)
on Solido's plastic figures which
sold-out before I got to it, but is still available from the details below.
Paul - the Editor - kindly sent me the
above image and the following press release (my italics!);
"The Book of Speedwell
A completely revised and updated publication
covering all the known plastic figures by Speedwell.
Many more photos, including many boxed sets, and newly discovered information
on this, perhaps not so minor maker. Includes pages from a price list c:1960;
as well as a complete analysis of their farm range by Barney Brown.
(64 pages, full colour).
Solido Belge
Newly written for PW by Daniel
Lepers, this is a comprehensive look at the plastic figures produced by this
well-know Belgian company.
(24 pages, full colour)."

Other News
Lincolnshire Louts
UK readers will be well aware of this story
as it has been covered by all the Daily's, terrestrial TV and most radio, but
for the foreign readership; vandals broke into the Welland Academy in
Stamford, where the Market Deeping Model Railway Club had set up for a show
last Sunday, and smashed everything.
But this wasn't the usual tip over a few tables, pluck some Merit trees,
nick the mars bars and coke from the club fridge and break-into the petty-cash
box, this was a prolonged orgy of destruction in which hand-built brass
locomotive models which had taken up to 25 years to finish were individually
destroyed (some by being thrown at a basketball hoop), every table was
overturned, every display was comprehensively trashed.
In the week since there has been a vast wave of sympathy (led by one Sir
Rod Stewart, a popular singer I believe!) and the last time I looked £61k
had been pledged from all over the world.
Four youths were arrested hiding in the
school, one parent has already appeared in the tabloids with the usual 'I can't believe it of my lovely boy' and
we all know nothing will come of it as far as retribution goes, meanwhile the
lifetime's work of several of hobbyists in a - probably - close group, has gone
forever.
The parent - of course - seems to have no
explanation for why she didn't know where her 'cherub' was at three-o'clock in
the morning!!

H is for How They Come In
New Books
Bit tight this week on the charity-shop
front (spent-out in Twickenham! ), but I picked this trio up over the week, the Usbourne 'Model Cars' is one of those
curious things where photographs are rendered as commercial artwork and is of
limited use, but fills a gap in the library as far as toy books go, I think
their 'Model Railways' volume is in the garage and there's an Aircraft one too,
still to be found.
The Bear book is superb, I have quite a few
as they all add to the whole, but this one is particularly good on company
histories and ID'ing the various makers, and is very well illustrated.
While the Casell's 'History of Warfare' is
beautifully written, but tends to illustrations you will have seen before - if
you follow such works, but it's about the text and Mr. Humble's fluid style is
easy to read, yet get's to the 'nub of it' very succinctly.
For instance - I've read about Salamis many times (it was my O-level
graphics paper's project - design a set of Salamis
commemorative stamps!), but this is the first book that made me realise one of
the major factors on the day was that the Persians (on expedition) were
carrying masts, yards, rigging and sails, while the Greeks, who prepared 'in
the morning' for battle, left theirs on the beach, so their ships were lighter,
less likely to get caught-up in mêlées and more manoeuvrable, as well as being
less top-heavy; so less likely to roll-over when rammed or ramming.
Likewise his coverage of the end of the
Roman Empire (particularly the Western empire) is very clear and easy to retain;
poor old Marcus Aurelius - he came so close, then all those horrid little
Farage's, Erdogan's and Orban's stabbing each-other, for a six-month stint in the hot seat, if the
palace guard or the oligarchs let them live another six months!
More Books
As I'm doing books, these have also come in
over the last few months, I may have Blogged one or both, I can't remember! The
bear book (Christmas/January?) was cheap, and it's not bad, but a bit 'coffee
table' if you know what I mean, while the brands book (a few weeks ago) is very
'coffee table', but useful none-the-less, especially when there's no internet,
where you can otherwise find most of the stuff within its covers!
An Actual Toy!
It's McDonald's,
whose premiums I don't pay much attention to, but I'll make an exception for a
semi-realistic (it was a cartoon!) Snowy from Tin Tin! The head turns but the legs are hollowed-out and open from
the inner sides- you win some you lose some!
I must get a better stabbing-guy, or dust
the one I'm using!
