About Me

I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

P is for Polymer Plunder Package - Sci-Fi and TV

We find ourselves looking at another favourite subsection of mine, the Sci-Fi/ & Fantasy stuff, although there's some media-related in here, there's also some in the final 'mixed' post.

Both seen before, I suspect, a Poundland Pterodactyl and an old novelty skeleton.

Ger'Nomes! A probably Euro-premium or Wundertüte, with a thick layer of paint to be removed and what I think might be the Tobar John Major jobbie in the middle, but either side is some even-more interesting fellows, if more pixy'ish! A multipart PVC one to the left which I suspect is another Xandria piece from the Netherlands, and, on the right, an ex-keyring chappie, who may have been a Leprechaun, but he's not really green enough?

Among the small-scale stuff were two totally new to me/Blog/Hobby astro-alien types (red and green on the left) which are probably small 1 or 2 ¢/p type gum-ball machine's capsule prizes? The 12-wheeled micro-rover is in the style of Micromachines, but from somewhere else I think (anyone know?), and the blue chap is another premium/gumball prize type, being a reduced-scale version of the old Manurba sculpts,

A handful of post-Giant stuff includes a red alien from the big bags issued by Novelty Headquarters Inc., and is a useful find! While we have one of the blow-moulded derivatives of them behind, the eyes are everything with these, and he has both! Strangely, despite being on the blog lots of times now, some people were struggling to ID them the other day despite being followers of-, and [occasional] commenters on- the Blog, almost . . . deliberate amnesia!

When they are that desperate to post the same thing days later, they are feeling threatened by you, plagiarism, even of ideas, themes or subjects is the sincerest form of flattery!

I know, but this was a half-full folder! Two modern takes on cavemen, and another of the small ones in polystyrene which turn up from time to time, I now believe they came as scenic accessories, with an Aurora type range of model-kits from Life-Like, which were actually inherited from Pyro, so could be either?

The mini blue 'superhero' came as companion pieces to larger ones on Pound Shop cards a few years ago (probably still a few out there somewhere), a Cylon Warrior from Mattel's 1978 Battlestar Galactica line, I have the Earth pilot somewhere I think, a lovely Terminator, sans arm, but possibly an unlicensed rip-off piece, and an MB Games piece courtesy of the Nottingham Mafia!

The Superman keyring was a very generous inclusion in the package from Chris, as I think I know guys on Podstalions who would swap an arm for something both vintage and DC! In the middle is . . . a dough/cookie cutter? Something like that, infant crafts of some kind, but figural, and apparently glowing with radiation! The Orange guy may be a racing driver, and I vaguely remember doing a show-repot on a company at Kensington Olympia who had a bunch of similar figures?

As well as the Giant knock-offs, there was a smattering of the Lik Be (still LB, for obvious reasons) robot/alien types, always useful, and in this early, clean/sharp state, possibly HG Buck Rogers fayre? Many thanks again, to Chris Smith, for sending these, for me to share with the rest of you.

F is for Follow-up's to Donation Posts

A few things which have been raised after recent posting one way or another. The cream-white Cowboy flat's from Chris HAD had a mark, not only that but originally I had an email chat with Chris, in which they came up, so how I forgot I don't know, elsewhere it gets excused as brain-freeze I believe, I'm blaming the amount of stuff which has come in recently, and the fact that it keeps going to storage in dribs & drabs!

Anyway, I've adjusted the post and added Vortella Plastic to the tag-list, as that was the mark!

Bertje Big; Characatures; Character Key Rings; Cinderella; De Betuwe Jam; Dinky Pink Panther; Dutch Key Rings; Dutch Novelties; Dutch Toys; Flipje Betuwe; Grimm's Fairy Tale; Grocer Krent; Hubley Duck; Hugh Walter; Hugh Walter's Blog; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Klaas Ram; Klaus Ram; Krent Kruidenier; Krent The Grocer; Pied Piper of Hamlyn; Pink Panther; Pink Panther Figures; Pink Panther Key Rings; Pink Panther Novelties; Pixy; Plastic Duck; PVC Characters; PVC Figurines; PVC Plastic Toy Figurines; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Ducks; Vortella Cowboys; Vortella Cowboys & Indians; Vortella Plastic; Vortella Wild West; Witch; Xandria; Xandria - Holland; Xandria Key Chain; Xandria Key Rings; Xandria Key-Fob; Xandria Pixies; Yolanda; Yolanda Pink Panther;
Further to Spectrum Steve's ID of the Pink Panther as being Dinky, I shot him with a few others which have come in recently, and so above, from the left we have Yolanda large and Yolanda small; both in the style of bendies, but actaully 'solids' from Spain, a duplicate key ring from a set we saw a year or two ago, another key-ring, probably Hong Kong, but new to me and then the Dinky, on the end.

While the bad guy from the Black Caldron cereal premiums in the same post hadn't been undercoated for painting, well, actually he had . . . but that wasn't the comment-worthy thing about him - he was a home-cast copy in solid pewter/whitemetal!

Bertje Big; Characatures; Character Key Rings; Cinderella; De Betuwe Jam; Dinky Pink Panther; Dutch Key Rings; Dutch Novelties; Dutch Toys; Flipje Betuwe; Grimm's Fairy Tale; Grocer Krent; Hubley Duck; Hugh Walter; Hugh Walter's Blog; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Klaas Ram; Klaus Ram; Krent Kruidenier; Krent The Grocer; Pied Piper of Hamlyn; Pink Panther; Pink Panther Figures; Pink Panther Key Rings; Pink Panther Novelties; Pixy; Plastic Duck; PVC Characters; PVC Figurines; PVC Plastic Toy Figurines; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Ducks; Vortella Cowboys; Vortella Cowboys & Indians; Vortella Plastic; Vortella Wild West; Witch; Xandria; Xandria - Holland; Xandria Key Chain; Xandria Key Rings; Xandria Key-Fob; Xandria Pixies; Yolanda; Yolanda Pink Panther;
A comparison between the new - white - duck and the older 'Hubley' one in red, except all the Hubley's I can find are shades of brown, or white, while I have black, red and yellow, so possibly a European mould-swap or license involved there? The new one is a nicer sculpt with better wing-definition, and feet - more realistic overall.

Bertje Big; Characatures; Character Key Rings; Cinderella; De Betuwe Jam; Dinky Pink Panther; Dutch Key Rings; Dutch Novelties; Dutch Toys; Flipje Betuwe; Grimm's Fairy Tale; Grocer Krent; Hubley Duck; Hugh Walter; Hugh Walter's Blog; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Klaas Ram; Klaus Ram; Krent Kruidenier; Krent The Grocer; Pied Piper of Hamlyn; Pink Panther; Pink Panther Figures; Pink Panther Key Rings; Pink Panther Novelties; Pixy; Plastic Duck; PVC Characters; PVC Figurines; PVC Plastic Toy Figurines; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Ducks; Vortella Cowboys; Vortella Cowboys & Indians; Vortella Plastic; Vortella Wild West; Witch; Xandria; Xandria - Holland; Xandria Key Chain; Xandria Key Rings; Xandria Key-Fob; Xandria Pixies; Yolanda; Yolanda Pink Panther;
I've also had a few more of the approximately 54mm Xandria's come in since Theo's stuff was posted, I think I said four were in the post at the time, but I forgot I'd had a fifth come in with a mixed Key-ring lot, a while ago; the lady on the left.

From the left; Unknown (Cinderella trying on the slipper from the fairy tale 'Pixies'?), Krent Kruidenier (Krent the grocer. a De Betuwe jam premium, seen before), Pied Piper of Hamlyn (Grimm's?), Bertje Big (Bertie Pig (?), another De Betuwe jam premium) and a Witch - another fairy tale Pixie?

Note Bertje's over-all PVC-vinyl trousers, the pattern making him look just like Podgy Pig from Rupert Bear, in his tweeds, who - when rendered in colour - is also often drawn as white, rather than pink? As Rupert dates from the 1920's, any plagiarism is Dutch I'm afraid! But, 1950's fashion on the farm, where you find pigs . . . I suspect more of a parallel evolution, there's only so many ways to anthropomorphise an animal so it's still recognisable!

O is for Odds and Sods

There are always a few things in the queue, which aren't really in the queue as they can only be used singly or wait forever for something to help them contribute to a larger post; these are two of they - as it is said in Bristol!

Bagged Toy, Beccles, Civilain Toy Figures, Dwarf Figurine, Gnome Toy, Hawkin's Bazaar, Hawkin's Bazar, Leprechaun, Novelty Figurine, NR34 75P, Pixie Toy, Plastic Figurine, Plastic Figurines, Plastic Novelty, The Old Aerodrome, Tobar Toys, Toy Gnome, Unknown, Unknown Toy Figures, Small Scale World, smallscaleworld.blogspot.com,
We start with a Gnome from Peter Evans, who - some of you may know - has just put his out to summer pasture; he kindly sent a duplicate my way!

Branded to Tobar so probably also a Hawkins Bazaar item at some point, he's a reasonable 54mm and manufactured from a dense polymer which could be anything, but probably isn't polystyrene.

Beccles, Civilain Toy Figures, Dwarf Figurine, Fontanini Dwarf, Gnome Toy, Hawkin's Bazaar, Hawkin's Bazar, Heinerle Manurba, Leprechaun, Manurba Heinerle, Novelty Figurine, NR34 75P, Pixie Toy, Plastic Figurine, Plastic Figurines, Plastic Novelty, Studio Heinerle Spiel und Süßwaren GmbH, The Old Aerodrome, Tobar Toys, Toy Gnome, Unknown, Unknown Toy Figures, Wundertüten, Small Scale World, smallscaleworld.blogspot.com, Hong Kong,
Posed with a 60mm coloured polyethylene Manurba for Heinerle 'Wundertüten' (Studio Heinerle Spiel- und Süßwaren GmbH!) copy of the originally white PVC Fontanini dwarf, a common, blow-moulded Hong Kong garden ornament/cake decoration and the two recently acquired Irish factory Wade Leprechauns to give you a sense of his size - he's definitely eaten all the pies!

Now, terrible to report, but Peter needs to keep a close eye on his Gnome Ghomes as there is such a very, actual, not-so-jolly 'thing' as gnome rustling, and it doesn't involve a bloke with leaves on his head, but rather; leaving gnomes!

The Daily Torygraph reported on the 8th May that a lady in Angus had had all her gnomes removed over several days between the 23rd and 30th April - batch-snatching!

In total 37 gnomes have gone walkabout, described by Police Scotland's Arbroath office as "small" and the "usual garden type", the elderly lady had collected them over 30 years and is genuinely bereft, the theft - believed to be a prank - is being treated as a 'not funny crime'.

Ambulance Toy, Civilian Toy Figures, Medics, Novelty Figurine, Plastic Figurine, Plastic Figurines, Plastic Novelty, Spanish Toy Figures, Stretcher Case, Unknown, Unknown Toy Figures, Small Scale World, smallscaleworld.blogspot.com,
Meanwhile these were sitting in Picasa waiting in vain for something similar to make a 'T is for...' post . . . although they could have been tacked-on to yesterday's Taffy post? Doh!

Sent in by Gog/Juan Angel, he's hoping someone can give him a brand name, brand-mark or set title, they presumably came with an toy ambulance or emergency-set of some kind and are quite modern, but rather nice sculpts, and it's always nicer when the two bearers are posed separately, rather than a duplicate pair.

P is for Pixies from Pixieland, but not by Pixyland-Kew!

Box-ticker, but a nice one...

These don't seem to have survived the move over to plastics, I've never seen them in plastic does anyone know otherwise? Box say everything else...scale? 1:1?
