I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

O is for Other Capsule Eggs

More standard egg shapes here, some with chocolate, some without, along with a blind bag (Lego) and a Tomy 'gum' ball!

Aras Eggo Toys; BIP Capsule Toy; BIP Star Wars; Capsule Toys; Chocolate Capsule Toys; Chocolate Eggs; Disnney Pixar; Gum Ball Capsule; Gum-ball Prizes; Lego Minifigures; Lego Muppets; Muppets; Pixar Incredibles; Schleich Bayala; Schleich Capsule Toy; Schleich Plastic Toy; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; The Incredibles; Tomy Capsule Toys; Tomy Incredibles; Ugly Toy Capsule; Ugly Toys;
Bandwagoning from Schleich here, and why not, but they're following Lego's blind-bagging band-wagon, not the original Kinder, although that was itself only a commercial formalisation of gum-ball machine prizes, with better quality toys and a chocolate egg!

Bayala is very-much the 'pink & purple' line in Schleich's catalogue, and these eggs, with no edibles, seem to contain one of twelve winged kitten-dragons in ten sculpts, again, not really a bit of me, but they will come in, in mixed lots over time, and it's always nice to know what you're dealing with!

I think we've seen something like these before (from Dracco Candy of Spain) and I castigated them on that occasion, well, I had another go and these are an equal  rip-off with little in them beyond shite, but the jelly-beans were OK! I've lost the brand on this one, but it's around somewhere.

Picked these up in a discount supermarket in North London when I visited Peter Evans, back before lock-down . . . three years, god! Aras Eggo Toys from Turkey, they also do larger sweet-container eggs with thematic branding - army tanks, puppies, Cindy-doll knock-offs &etc.

The toy is a small, simple 3-part jet-fighter, made in China, which I thought I'd shot assembled, but obviously not! While the egg is - for me - a preferable all-chocolate, to that sickly white stuff with makes up half a Kinder egg.

I've had a go at BIP (Holland) before, as well; their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle egg was a disappointment, and that story continues with this jump on the art / designer-toy bandwagon, with an Ugly Dolls button-badge, mini-sticker sheet and those barely edible chalky candies.

I should caveat my attack with the point that I'm coming from the angle of looking for figurals - some kids love stickers . . . and badges, and will be well-happy with this as a pocket-money treat!

Safer ground with Tomy's capsule toys, large dispensers in shopping precincts (malls) and some retailers (The Entertainer always has a bank of them near the tills or the entrance), and here we have two of the Incredibles from Disney-Pixar.

Finally, there's these from Lego, their blind-bag minifigures, I got the mad Doctor Bunsen Honeydew, but would like the band! They'll turn-up on evilBay as full sets of twelve, if they haven't already, some traders buy wholesale and break them down.

O is for Other Edibles

We leave the string of bendies - for a while - but stick with edibles for another day with a post that's been over a year in the cooking . . . or should that be fermenting?

We'll start with a whingey-rant or a paean against modernity as exemplified by the Thatcherite-Raganomic free marketers!

On the left is the wrapping from a Terry's Chocolate Orange, circa 1980-something, possibly 1970-something, it matters not; on the right is the current design. The earlier version is making a good attempt at trying to look like a navel-orange with shading toward the bottom (edge of the wrapper) and the little plant-jiggit at the top (centre), while the one on the right is a random stamping from a continuous sheet and resembles one of those awful deep-pile carpet, fire-hazards in 1960's flats.

For a cost saving of nought-point-zero-zero-something per unit, quality is thrown to the wolves; progress may be progress, but it's not necessarily an improvement on what went before, and as such a failure to strive for excellence is a common thread through the modern world, it bodes ill for the future of everything!

Brain Berke sent these Coris Whistle Candy images to the Blog back in the spring, and while it's not of much interest to the toy soldier purists, it is of interest to the wider study of toys, or student of novelty items!

Obviously the pirate attracted Brain, who had one eye on TLAPD, unfortunately, the operative word is treasure, unlike the Choco/Candy Treasure we saw yesterday, this pirate being only atmospheric 'window dressing'!

The treasure actually being a transparent, doll's-house size, cooking pot! The size of the box however suggests that like Christmas cracker gifts or gum-ball capsule prizes; the novelties vary considerably in size, and if you were a young girl, with a doll's house . . . or doll; you'd be as happy with this treasure, as I might with a toy figure, or Captain Scarlet knock-off!

Imported by Hadson (Toko) Trading Co. Ltd., of New York, the whistling Polo-clones are apparently Cola flavoured . . . nom-nom-nomnivore!

The reason this post is titled 'edibles' rather than capsule toys! We saw an empty one in the Christmas novelty-fest a few years ago, now here’s a full one, common in the gutters of Britain's high streets where they skitter down the drains and try to find their way out to the sea, a sea they don't belong in, and damage by their presence!

We had some shelfies of this chap from Brian Berke  a while ago, he then sent a sample to the Blog and these are the constituent parts in close-up; he's in a rigid PVC.

Four views; I used to have a 70's or early 80's Kenner Imperial Stormtrooper, not a rare one, just the 'army-builder' and while I'm not sure if I still have him, or where he is, I think there's a fair chance you could produce a decent cut'n'shut with the Kenner legs and this torso, for a new pose . . . size wise?

Just in case you've never assembled a four-part, action-figure sized, Star Wars, model Stormtrooper Galerie provide clear and easy to follow illustrated instructions! Six to collect.

I keep trying these plastic BIP (or Bon-Bon Buddies) eggs with their dire candies, in the hope of finding something worth adding to the collection, and keep being disappointed! There are several new ones around at the moment including Paw Patrol and Pepper Pig (all the 'P's!), I buy this shite so you don't have to!

Mentioned in passing yesterday, these Toto's from Turkey used to be a 99p Stores standard, since the Poundland takeover they have appeared sporadically in the new owner's shops, but they also have a Kinder thing going on at the same time. These were actually in Poundworld Plus, and are firmly piggy-backing the Emoji movie!

Eggs do rather lend themselves to Emoji-related graphics! Unlike yesterdays who have the same two-headed (two-emoji'ed?!!) wrapping, these all have a single-Emoji, foil wrapper.

The three toys; not one of which is Emoji-related. I can't work out the cat/bear 'Hello Miffy' thing at all, it has two red sprung-loaded widgets which may be feet, may be a collar, don't move far or with any good reason that I can tell . . . perplexing!

The mini-transformer is fun, a sort of rocket-firing/bin-lorry/Jeep-thing that unfolds into the least convincing wo'manzinger-tron you ever saw! Finally a Thunderbirds knock-off/clone of the Mole, but a cabriolet-mole! Take strong goggles, a titanium helmet and keep your shoulders low in the seat s'my advice to you Mr. Tracy!

M is for More Capsule toys

I know we only looked at Capsule toys (for the umpteenth time!) the other day, but then some of these were going to be in those posts, however, more Star Wars came in, then I re-ID'd the Tombola and finally (while all that was going on) Brian sent us some more US capsules to look at, so everything has been jigged, at least twice, in the last few weeks - it's sometimes a busy, fluid, editorial situation here at Smallscaleworld Towers!

So to Brian's latest contribution (it's not his latest - he's since sent another motorcycle! Among other things), and this one is very interesting, given my comments last time and the adamant stance of both Wikipedia and the FDA that you can't have a Kinder or Kinder-like toy egg in the New Country!

Imported from Turkey (who have featured in capsule eggs before) by Candy Treasure of Lebanon, New Jersey and branded to Choco Treasure, this egg is - in every measureable way as far has 'elf & Safety' or likelihood of killing yourself - identical to a Kinder egg?

Toy, inside plastic, two-part, capsule, inside egg, inside foil, inside box, the same order as any other 'euro-egg'.

If you; dear, departed, colonist, want Kinder Eggs, now is the time to write to your Congressman! You fought for your Independence; you rebuilt your 'White' house after that little unfortunate'ness in 1812, you had a Civil War and settled-down again; you earned the right to eat whatever you darn-tootin' well please! Now is the time to rise-up and demand the import of Kinder Eie Chocolade, Nicht Wahr?!

And; the contents will be better than this! Emoticon related nonsense! "Find all the treasures" . . . even a little poo! But if you think this is a bit poor, it's because you haven't finished reading the rest of the post yet! Thanks to Brian Berke for entering the spirit of the 'We buy this so you don't have to' department!

Kinder themselves have a new'ish product, which I noticed the other day is getting magazine advertising. I first noticed them last year sometime, and assumed they were a new packaging, then I saw them next to standard foil-wrapped Kinder eggs and wondered if they were back-alley imports from the Middle East or somewhere where a hard case was necessary, only to buy a couple the other day and find they are in fact a completely different product.

As you can see it's a sort of pudding or desert, and like all Kinder stuff, a bit too sweet for me, that sickly-sweetness that gets the back of your throat! Anyway - one was OK, two were too many!

Imagine a piece of Kinder Bueno, rolled in sprinkles and buried in a puddle of semi-set Kinder Egg, and you've got the taste right there, in your head, unless you're unfamiliar with these products - in which case you probably think I'm a raving loon, but if it's taken you this long to work that out; you're not trying and the double-yolks on you!

The toys were however figural, although looking a little too much like a cross between our idiot Olympic mascots (no, I'm never going to let it go - ugly little shits the pair of'em!) and a likely logo for a power-generator!

There are at least two sets and one of them had little emoji type paper scraps to fold and hide in the head-cavity, all seem to be the same moulding, so kids and collect and swap.

So a return to the products of Bon Bon Buddies (bbb) or in this case BIP of Holland with their nuggets of "Fruit Flavour Compressed Candy" (good 'till the 20th June 2019!) and shite toys!

In all other respects they are the same as bbb, the same container with the same holes and the same sweets and the same shite toys; a Ninja Turtle spinning top (which with a different card disc could be N. E. Other's spinning top!) and stickers, we've seen them before as Disney, DC and Marvel I think? They were together with the aforementioned ones already degenerated here and several others.

Finally a couple of edibles which seem to have avoided the last 'edibles' post? Christmas just gone's Lindt mini-bears had two dressed in Christmas jumpers to keep the usual all-gold one company.
