About Me

I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

News, Views Etc . . . White Tower Miniatures

Matt posted this yesterday;

"Sad day, we have done our quarter one review. Sales are down quite a bit. It must be a combination of three things, firstly the world climate is stopping people buying due to costs and fear. Secondly ebay has added costs to our products, more of that later. Thirdly we are possibly making too much.

So something will be changing, our products will no longer be on ebay. It is marking up prices, gouging on postage and making listing very difficult. Its not worth it, so go to our website to gain free shipping cheaper prices and the full range of our products. Secondly the price of metal has skyrocketed so production costs are beyond sales, so we need to tread more carefully. This means we will still release the next two batches but after that until we start to break even I will use you good people to pick what gets made, I will sculpt figures and put them to a vote.

Sad but needs must till things balance out. Please help me find new customers by sharing our Facebook and website with people you might think will be interested. And you at least will have a say in what goes into production as I will not be able to subsidise the width or figures I sculpt into production. A bit gloomy I know but as a one person operation I can not bankrupt myself for a hobby."

So grab anything you need off of evilBay if you use that platform, before he delists it, or remember to use the website from now on; https://whitetowerminiatures.co.uk

W is for Wild Wild White Tower West!

At the last London Show, just before Christmas (next show now is Sandown on 22nd Feb.), I caught up with old friend Matt Their, who - like many of us - is going through life's ring of fire at the moment, but he retains his sanity by continuing to add to his ranges, and the Wild West were centre-stage that Saturday, so below is a partial catalogue of the Wild West highlights, real catalogues and the range can be purchased from the usual site;

"Ah Soh! Grasshopper!"
Brilliant!

"They were in a big tin saucer, which was this wide! Hic!"

The buildings are a partnership/scale-up with 28mm role-playing stuff from somewhere else, if I recall the conversation correctly, and are built in sections so you can place figures inside their spacious interiors. They are manufactured in one of the new lightweight foams, but dense enough to hold shape and detail like harder polymers.

Pancho Villa's firing line!

Elements of the Bounty Hunter line

 Native leadership!

Trappers and 'Backwoodsmen'.

The growing 'Saloon' line.

If I had the money, if I had the space, if I had the time . . . but, you know me and my lack of knowledge on new production solid metal (Gareth (Morgan Miniatures) has some new Highwaymen - see Blog link list, on left of page), however, Matt can answer any questions you may have.

K is for Karate - Kung-Fu!

T is for Two Pairs! An oddity in the annals of toy solder collecting, or toy figure production first. One can see the thinking behind it, and had it succeeded we may have seen a pair of Boxers, Wrestlers, Fencers, maybe even Ninjas, but it didn't succeed and no further sets jointed this rump-line of the Deetail range.

The Karate Kung-Fu pairing from Britains, sort of a good idea, but not all good ideas are practical or desirable, and this has no play value beyond an ornament. And you do tend to find them in this condition, near mint, I've even seen near complete shop-display boxes of them over the years, so many were left unsold first time round. Now, of course, it's a gap-filler/collection completer!

I've shot this pair too, Kinder's martial-arts chaps, they can, at least, be posed and played with as two separate individuals, to tell 'stories', or whatever, and are pop-together polyethylene against the PVC of the Britains figures. Kinder, of course, did do Boxers and Fencers, while there are quite a few Wrestlers around now, and plenty of Ninjas have been produced!
