S is for Several Sculpted Spacemen

In addition to the two - quite sensible - rack toys, and the loose figures I used for the first narrative post, there were also some more assorted or generic spacemen and astronauts among the plunder of the first weekend in July, and which are the subject of this second space post.

 

Martin let me have these, pretty-much at cost, and a maker's name has come out since we last looked at them; Anabea, from Argentina, I think there were only the four poses copied from Deetail, but there is an alternate alien head used sometimes.

 

The Reisler also came from Martin, and is a duplicate of one previously seen, however this time he has a clear helmet, as opposed to the blue-tinted one we saw last time, a piece of Hing Fat junk from modern China, and a Cherilea pod-foot. I think my based sample is fair enough now, but I'm short on the pod-feet ones, with mostly HK or Marx soft vinyl versions.

 

Two K&M-Wild Republic on the left, with two new, baseless figures on the right. I think I may have seen their set, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, it's quite an infantile thing, for such realistic figures? A chunky flag-pole would appear to be missing.

 

A very cleanly marked 60mm Tudor Rose copy of Premier on the right, while on the left is a giant, 100mm-odd, polyethylene version of the Archer spacewoman, I think she may be one of the ones you see singly in bags marked A-OK USA, although there are plenty of parallels with the Hong Kong knock-offs, the quality is better. There should be an equally huge helmet, but it may be convertible for something else at that size - some of the modern travel-bottle sets have round-bottomed containers?

 

These Marx 60mm guys didn't survive the trip to Whitton, but I have better examples, so I guess it's off to 'recyce' for them, before their free-radicals contaminate anything else . . . Soylent Metallic Blue, yummy!

 

Also four post-Giant clones came out of the woodwork in the course of the day, three of the type 'C1' and a commoner 'C2', all grist to the mill;

S is for Seen Elsewhere - Sci-Fi Figures

Another in the occasional PC-clearing series of the stuff I've already shown somewhere else! Some of which will have been seen here too, but the idea is to get all new images up, or do a bit of extra box-ticking!

"For mash get Smash!", the almost immortal (if you're of a certain age) tag-line jingle that ended the humorous TV adverts' for Cadbury's instant mashed-potato powder! Technically 'Martians', they appear to be Robots (the actual Martians never being seen?), they were such a successful campaign several toys resulted, these pencil tops being possibly the most common, but a chunky Bendy exists and a Marx clockwork wind-up.

Argentine copy (pink) of the female space warrior (black) from Britains compared, the lower shot is out of focus (obviously) but the upper one was a poor choice of background, so I've put them together as I can't re-shoot at the moment, they're buried in a shipping container!

We saw these not that long ago, but I'd shot them for the Faceplant group, so here they are again! Mattel GUTS! Laser Fighters space figures, the helmets are all different, as are weapons, while equipment layout and colours also differ from figure to figure, so more a bunch of space pirates or mercenaries than an organised force!

We should have had these here too, in a show report, but I can't remember posting them, so it may still be in the queue somewhere. I did post them as shelfies from someone else's table once though - Vision von Anderen Sternen or 'Vision of Other Stars'.

Elastolin's hysterical lobster-hula-cow lady ('Venus Amazona') and 'Saurus Saturn' the turquoise space-ant eater! These were as rare as rocking-horse shit, but when the factory shut down a huge heap of them turned-up and I think everyone who wanted a set got one! I previously dubbed them Rubber-girl (catalogue No. 8304) and Dino-grinch! 8300.

I was a small-scale collector at the time but can remember loads of them on several tables at the Herne show, only to see people wanting pretty silly money for the few on show up in London! I sort of paid silly money for these, but they don't turn-up now like they did 15-odd years ago - because they are all in collections! And to be fair I didn't pay what I know some are happy to pay for all four!

The Astronaut (8310, who didn't get a name . . . Raumy?) was originally the most expensive (separate helmet?) at DM 1,50 pf. (about 30p in the 1970's?), with 1.25-each for the previous two and only ,90-pfennigs for 8302 the 'Jupiter Gorilla', or Crab-Taz the Lobster-man! And while some sources claim they were game-pieces for a board game (Perry Rodan?), they were issued in a bilingual (German French) clear carton.

Clearly though they were some kid of experiment or one-off, from Elastolin, the non-standard bases, painted different colours, singling them out as not the norm, and reputed to be sculpted by a Max Weißbrodt, they didn't take off, or didn't get the head-office support they needed, and consequently a shed-load turned-up at the end! The catalogue numbering though, suggests the line was to be expanded?

Finishing with a question-mark, anyone know who this is or what toy-line he's from? The hole in the back of his helmet and rather smoothly-finished back-pack seem to point to a missing attachment or fixing of some kind, he's nylon or polypropylene and about 54mm, I suspect he's quite modern or even relatively current? Although, he also looks a bit 1980's 'straight-to-video' post-apocalypse punky!

P is for Previously Seen on the Internet . . . I - Space

As well as here, I do from time to time post elsewhere, and for a while now (well, since the start of the global Covid-19 SARS-Cov2 coronavirus pandemic!) I have been posting the odd bit to various Faceplant 'groups', Heiler Brian's group tends to get stuff which has already been seen here (or is less relevant to this Blog - re-posted Star Wars and Dr Who memes, toy/pop-cultural cartoons etc!), but Peter Evans's Friends of Plastic Warrior and a couple of the Polish sites get new stuff, and there's been the odd other bit.

As posting on such sites is a pretty ephemeral exercise with little in the way of SEO or tags/labels, and with them eventually disappearing off the bottom of the page (you can search by author, but if they've posted a lot your browser can slow to a stop on Faceplant before you find it), I thought I'd re-post some of it here, by way of a variation of Lazy Posts!

Jean Höfleur 40mm astronauts from the Luna Station play-sets, and - as far as I know - they only downsized four of the eight larger-scale figures, although there were [earlier?] multicoloured versions; these have a coat of semi-matt silver paint over silver plastic.

Britains Deetail-style Alien-Cylon-Robo' Babe, with an Argentine copy on the right, the copy is polystyrene and has a sensible 'toy soldier' base! I just love the metallic pink and cherry red . . . Space disco-babe! I don't have a brand/maker for the copy yet? July 2026 - Now known to have been issued four-to-a-card by an Anabea.

Fireball XL5's Venus (in blue jeans?) on a Speeder Bike, No! Hovercycle, No! Space Flyer, No! Lawmaster, No!. . . Jetmobile; she's on a Jetmobile! MPC. I still need a Steve Zodiac if anyone happens to have a spare (I know, I'm thinking of going into stand-up!), I have his bike, but he's wandered off!
