About Me

No Fixed Abode, Home Counties, United Kingdom
I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

I is for Image Dump!

Getretro is a wholesaler of old stock, cancelled toys and other end-of-line clearance stuff, so the fact that I didn't get around to posting these, from the London Show back in 2023 makes sense as this had all, already, been out there somewhere, and those who needed to know about such things would already have found them!

Retro, Risk, Revell & Role Play!

Eaglemoss Dr's Who, Who, Who & Who . . . Who, Who, Who, Who and Who, a bunch of companions, Daleks, Cybermen and someone called War?

Lionel, now a trademark for shifting big-box sets from China.

That's it really, just to get them up here and out of the way, as it were! Website;

S is for Stretch Ar . . . Star Wars

I shot these in Lidl a couple of weeks ago and posted them on Brain Heiler's Faceplant group page, as I know there's a fair-few Star Wars fans there, and Jay Luttrull reported they were showing up at Meijer and Walgreens, where they are likely to hang-around longer than the week or so of Lidl's weekly-bargain model!

If you were a fan of Stretch Armstrong, Stretch Monster or Stretch whatever-the-other-one-was-called, you must want these! Star Wars stretchers, from Character Options, although the bad guys seem to have carried more sway in the design-meetings!

H is for How They Come In - The 'Meah' Lot!

Last week's finds were a bit disappointing I'm afraid, but to not show it would be to upset the sort of sub-conscious symmetry which drives people with Asperger's, so here it is for your amusement; two bags of relative shite and another teddy-bear.

Animal Erasers; Character Options; Erasers; Golden Bear; Iwako; Medic; Moshlings; Nurse Figures; Pig Super Hero; Pink Monkey; Shopkins; Small Bear; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Superheroes; Teddy Bear; Union Jack; Zinglings;
Bag'a'shite! Bloooody Stuuudents! "Oh, oh look, I gotta disssserrrtaaation"! The bottom three rows are some sort of 'zing, 'ling or 'kin, which sort I haven't looked up, but they are all piling-up in Picasa (under 1964!) for an overview one day!

Purple Alien is fun if a bit cartoony, eight Iwako or Iwako-piracies top right, a Character Options footballer (useful as a sample for comparisons, if for nothing else) and three similar figures by someone else who makes better 'minis' than Lego!

Animal Erasers; Character Options; Erasers; Golden Bear; Iwako; Medic; Moshlings; Nurse Figures; Pig Super Hero; Pink Monkey; Shopkins; Small Bear; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Superheroes; Teddy Bear; Union Jack; Zinglings;
Bag No.2; more of the same but mostly resin and I rather like the piggy-wiggy superheroes -  Superham and Captain Gammon! Anyone know anything about them; the trouble with poured resin is anyone can do it in their shed or garage and get it into a local craft or gift/tourist shop, so you never know the level of 'commercial' interest, but they are both quite professional looking so somebody may know what they are all about?

Footballer and the two love-hearts go back to charity, but the pink 'knitted' PVC monkey stays until I find out about it! And a couple more unknown 'kins.

Animal Erasers; Character Options; Erasers; Golden Bear; Iwako; Medic; Moshlings; Nurse Figures; Pig Super Hero; Pink Monkey; Shopkins; Small Bear; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Superheroes; Teddy Bear; Union Jack; Zinglings;
Another teddy-bear who ticks all the Covid-19, clapping but no pay-rise, NHS cannon-fodder boxes!

C is for Christmas Exhibition - 1 of 5 - Construction Blocks

The Fleet & Crookham Local History Group had got their Christmas exhibition up and running the next time I visited after mentioning it the other day week, and I duly shot it for posterity and our annual visit, which starts here!

This year they had a themed display on each shelf, concentrating on construction toys, ancient and modern and I will be looking at each shelf on a separate post to limit the images to manageable 'lumps'

'Tele-Porter'; A Mini-Jeep; Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon; ATV And Gun; Bell; Big Ben; Block System From Japan; Block Tech; Canada; Challenger Tank; Character Options; Christmas Exhibition; Click Brick; Dinosaur; Hestair Kiddicraft; Hestair Kiddycraft; Hilary Page; Ice Castle; J&L Randall; K'nex; Kandy Toys; Kiddicraft/Lego; Kreo; Mega Blocks; Merit; Minibrixs; My Toys; Nano Blocks; O-Guage Model; Peter Pan; Poundland; Railway Farm Loader; Rock Drill; Self-Locking Building Bricks; Signal Box; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Soft-Plastic Polyethylene Bricks; Sta-Lox; The Fleet & Crookham Historical Society; The Works; Tower Bridge; Transformer; Transformers; Wilco - Block Tech;
It's not just Lego that copied (stole, pirated . . . ) the Hestair Kiddicraft Self-Locking Building Bricks of Hilary Page, many other clones have come and gone, some compatible some [deliberately?] not, while the search for an alternate system also goes-on, K'nex having come closest so far.

The top shelf of this seasons display contains various other makes, and here we see (from the left) a Minibrixs signal box for O-guage model railway layouts (11), a farm loader (or 'tele-porter') from Click Brick (6) and a Kreo 'Transformer' (1) and one imagines there was no more care paid to a Transformers license as there was to a Lego (or Kiddicraft) license!

'Tele-Porter'; A Mini-Jeep; Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon; ATV And Gun; Bell; Big Ben; Block System From Japan; Block Tech; Canada; Challenger Tank; Character Options; Christmas Exhibition; Click Brick; Dinosaur; Hestair Kiddicraft; Hestair Kiddycraft; Hilary Page; Ice Castle; J&L Randall; K'nex; Kandy Toys; Kiddicraft/Lego; Kreo; Mega Blocks; Merit; Minibrixs; My Toys; Nano Blocks; O-Guage Model; Peter Pan; Poundland; Railway Farm Loader; Rock Drill; Self-Locking Building Bricks; Signal Box; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Soft-Plastic Polyethylene Bricks; Sta-Lox; The Fleet & Crookham Historical Society; The Works; Tower Bridge; Transformer; Transformers; Wilco - Block Tech;
Sta-Lox soft-plastic polyethylene bricks come from the former colonies (Canada) and we all seem to have had a few kicking-about in the toy zone when we were kids, although I suspect a fair few of them were actually Hong Kong sub-copies, or locally produced under license by Merit or Peter Pan or someone like that? They were meant to represent real house-bricks, they made better stone forts (as here) and were quite useful, if you wanted something simple, in red, as that was the extent of their invention!

'Tele-Porter'; A Mini-Jeep; Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon; ATV And Gun; Bell; Big Ben; Block System From Japan; Block Tech; Canada; Challenger Tank; Character Options; Christmas Exhibition; Click Brick; Dinosaur; Hestair Kiddicraft; Hestair Kiddycraft; Hilary Page; Ice Castle; J&L Randall; K'nex; Kandy Toys; Kiddicraft/Lego; Kreo; Mega Blocks; Merit; Minibrixs; My Toys; Nano Blocks; O-Guage Model; Peter Pan; Poundland; Railway Farm Loader; Rock Drill; Self-Locking Building Bricks; Signal Box; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Soft-Plastic Polyethylene Bricks; Sta-Lox; The Fleet & Crookham Historical Society; The Works; Tower Bridge; Transformer; Transformers; Wilco - Block Tech;
Ignore the blue thing, that's Lego on the shelf below (next post) and starting with the tractor (2); we have products from an unknown contract manufacturer for My Toys/Kandy Toys, an importer seen here at Small Scale World a few times now, a mini-jeep/ATV and gun, also from Click Brick (3), with modern architecture (well, when I say 'modern', I mean a mid-century/post-war, Bauhaus/post-modern Walter Gropius style of modern!) in the centre, from Bell (8), Merit (J&L Randall) would inherit the moulds, and there are both Spanish and Italian copies or licensed-versions of this simple polyethylene, stacking, infant toy.

Behind it is an Ice Castle from Mega Blocks (also Canadian - 13), with a pirate ship from K'nex with the new(-'ish) blocks bringing it closer to Lego (12) off to the left, Click Brick's tele-porter in front. While going right we have a Block Tech (Poundland, The Works etc...) Rock Drill (4) with a Wilco (also Block Tech - as contractor) dinosaur in the background, there's another, baby one on the corner.

'Tele-Porter'; A Mini-Jeep; Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon; ATV And Gun; Bell; Big Ben; Block System From Japan; Block Tech; Canada; Challenger Tank; Character Options; Christmas Exhibition; Click Brick; Dinosaur; Hestair Kiddicraft; Hestair Kiddycraft; Hilary Page; Ice Castle; J&L Randall; K'nex; Kandy Toys; Kiddicraft/Lego; Kreo; Mega Blocks; Merit; Minibrixs; My Toys; Nano Blocks; O-Guage Model; Peter Pan; Poundland; Railway Farm Loader; Rock Drill; Self-Locking Building Bricks; Signal Box; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Soft-Plastic Polyethylene Bricks; Sta-Lox; The Fleet & Crookham Historical Society; The Works; Tower Bridge; Transformer; Transformers; Wilco - Block Tech;
We finish with Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon (9) and Character Options Challenger Tank (14) with two from Nano Blocks - Big Ben and Tower Bridge, a sort of half-scale or miniaturised Kiddicraft/Lego block system from Japan (5).

'Tele-Porter'; A Mini-Jeep; Airfix's Eurofighter Typhoon; ATV And Gun; Bell; Big Ben; Block System From Japan; Block Tech; Canada; Challenger Tank; Character Options; Christmas Exhibition; Click Brick; Dinosaur; Hestair Kiddicraft; Hestair Kiddycraft; Hilary Page; Ice Castle; J&L Randall; K'nex; Kandy Toys; Kiddicraft/Lego; Kreo; Mega Blocks; Merit; Minibrixs; My Toys; Nano Blocks; O-Guage Model; Peter Pan; Poundland; Railway Farm Loader; Rock Drill; Self-Locking Building Bricks; Signal Box; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Soft-Plastic Polyethylene Bricks; Sta-Lox; The Fleet & Crookham Historical Society; The Works; Tower Bridge; Transformer; Transformers; Wilco - Block Tech;
A look back down the shelf for a better angle on one or two of them, the gun and dinosaur are probably better in this shot.

Still on display in Fleet library.

Funny little bunch this week, I'm guessing rocket is Carlton, possibly a 'companion' with a larger action-figure? A Character Options sailor, an unknown cartoony F1 driver, another 'unknown' (blind bag?), called 'Maniac' and a Giochi Preziosi 'Gormiti' to add to their tub! I also picked up another board game today (Thurs.), but given other things it can wait.

These have been building-up in the WTF zone, a couple from Charity Shop lots, the rest from Jim and/or Chris and/or Peter Evans (thanks' chaps). Really only useful if 1) you collect unrealistic dinosaur skeletons (guilty as charged M'lud!), or 2) need a natural history museum ruin in your diorama (you never know - spares box!), or 3) are building a killer skeleton/undead army (oh yes!) . . . so actually, pretty useful really!

Three glow in the dark, two weathered wash and probably four sources? We may have seen one here in a Poundland purchase about nine-years ago?

News Bites

Legoland - That new Lego amusement-park ride announced (here) a couple of weeks ago failed on its opening day and had to be closed 'due to technical issues'!

Brwreakshit - Which; the UK consumer affairs organisation warned that dangerous toys 'could flood into the UK' after Brexit, one hopes that it's over emphasising the risk, but it was one of the risks mooted three-years ago, the announcement was part of a urging of the Government to keep open the European 'safety gate'.

Murder - speaking of Brwreakshit and the steady rise in violent and hate crime over the last three years - Danny Bostock (33) has been jailed for life, after killing a fellow coin-collector for a Peter Rabbit 50p. Having stabbed the owner - Gordon McGhee -14 times he tried to destroy the crime scene with a gas explosion, risking the lives of neighbours; he won't be from the 'hard left' Mr. O'Connell?

Tom Karen - Czechoslovakian-born designer of the Raleigh 'Chopper' and Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder as head of the Ogle design studio, recently collected an OBE and said he was saddened by the modern toy industry.

Nintendo - Have announced two new gaming consoles - that'll mean more toys! The new models are budget and enhanced versions of their existing Switch console.

Spare a thought for an old soldier (Military Cross, bar and cluster - not many of them around), he's currently fighting his last battle and it doesn't seem to be going terribly well, but knowing him as I do, I suspect it might all be part of his cunning plan to cheat The Ferryman out of a fare; it won't work, of course, but it's a good last wheeze and won't cost him an extra minute in either realm...
