About Me

I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

L is for Last One for Now!

Still with Pikit Toys! I did a quick entry for Pikit on the relevant A-Z blog last night, it only reminded me of how little I've done on them and how much is still to do (and I thought by now I'd be settled and doing it . . . this time next year, he says, hopefully!), but it's there now anyway!

News, Views Etc . . . Design Eye

As I mentioned last night, I've put the Design Eye A-Z entry up here;

http://smallscaleworld-d-e-f.blogspot.com/2021/10/design-eye-design-eye-publishing.html

I haven't done as much on those blogs as I'd hoped this year, but the day when I really get stuck into them is not far off, or nearer, whichever gives you more hope!

P is for Piss Poor Paperwork

I've added a minor metal maker Eugene Custer (I think) to the A-Z pages (much more on those pages when I'm settled in a new home - year or so), the accompanying image for which is pretty shite, but it is better . . .

Custer E B; Custer Miniatures; Eugene B Custer; Polk's; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com;
. . . than it was; image on the left! These all came from the James Chase Collection a decade and a half ago, he was big in Floridian port management and obviously had the use of an early photostat or photo-copier of some kind, which prints like MacDonald's recipts, changing colour near heat and eventually fading to nothing! Anyway, I've managed to get it back partially with heavy contrast, certainly enough to ID the heavy, square bases . . . and as we work through the A-Z entries there will be more of them! It's a page from an old Polk's catalogue, circa 1950'ish?

News, Views Etc . . . Festival Products Inc.

Right - I'm running hideously late, but have lots 'in the bag' for later in the week, suffice to say I'm throwing up Monday's posts for today and Yesterday's for tomorrow, and them tomorrow I should have time to sort the pile! eMails tomorrow (New York - Got, Thanks - Artist, Got, Yes, Weekend, anyone else -  will read/reply tomorrow!), well . . . I forgot it was a Bank-holiday!

Timpo as American rack-toys, over on the A-Z pages; Festival Products Inc., more info would be appreciated, but it's a start! It's funny isn't it; I start loading stuff from the archive and he decides to photograph an instruction-sheet - badly! Too funny.

News, Views Etc . . . Highlander in the A-Z

Starting to sort the archive in the evenings has resulted in a find I'd forgotten I had - an old article from the Sun-Sentinal newspaper of Broward & Palm Beach, Florida in the in the USA on the Highlander range. It firms up the companies start date to 1976 and reveals an interesting plan for foreign troops!

An old newspaper cutting scanned from the Sun-Sentinel, Thursday, September 23rd, 1976 and showing an interior designer called Billy MaCarty with a couple of figures, probably bronzes, in the background.
On the reverse of the article is another puff-piece (I think the 'C' suffixed pages are the 1970's equivalent of 'weekend' or 'magazine' pages?), this one on a Floridan called Billy McCarty who's reported to be in the UK doing interior design, well, if anybody designed that for me I'd beat him to death with a carrot, slowly.**

But there are a couple of military looking brasses involved in the 'make-over' a knight or conquistador type on the mantle-shelf, and something unclear which might be Caesar at Calais pointing vaguely at Eastbourne and saying "Let's go there...", on the quite small coffee table.

But it's funny - figures on both sides of a page from a 42-year-old newspaper!

** I'm joking - I would probably just sue them for emotional distress! Sadly he has passed away
