The four late Merit sets 5125-8 do exist and I have either packs or all the figures from the first three (so far missed out on the stair climbers on ebay!) I also have the N Gauge unpainted set A (&B) so that definitely existed. I can photograph the figures if needed.
You have confirmed my suspicions that the 'flatties' are related to the old Mastermodels figures.
Thanks Bernard
I was pretty sure on the N gauge set as I have set B! But have a rule never to assume until I've seen or held!
Would love pics of the late sets for my records or as a contributory post here.
The story re. moulds is that when Wardie folded, they couldn't pay the last weeks wages, so some of the guys walked - across the road to Randell's - with the moulds!
But how Slater's (and Wills/Ratio?) got hold of them is more of a mystery. Slaters seem to have pantographed them to other sizes as well; 40 and 50mm.
Cheers for the input,
H
