I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

R is for Round-up - Fish and Sea Creatures

Time for the occasional look at fish and fishy things, most of a rack-toy nature, but some of more substance and two of such exquisiteness it's a joy to have them on the blog, but first a return to some we've seen before here;

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
A while ago, probably the last time we looked at them, we saw a bunch of these, presented to the Blog by either Peter Evans or Brain Carrick, I can't remember, but whichever of the PW-founders it was, the other then gave me some more, from the same set!

So the above is now definitely courtesy of both Brian and Peter, and represents a more complete sample of a set with an unknown sculpt-count! Thanks to both. Simpler painting on most allows (within the budget) for more careful and multi-coloured decoration on the three reef/angel-fish types - top left.

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
The mould-tools clearly survive and are still in production, this set was donated to the blog in the last year or two, by Brian Berke, having been acquired the other side of the pond where it's wearing Imperial's moniker (which is probably the brand under which the older ones hit the shops - they having returned to the original contractor?).

Obviously some of the contents are as above (with no, or one-colour paint highlights) which means . . .

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
. . . that the sculpt-total can go up a bit! Adding a shark, a dolphin, an octopus and a sea-horse. But; with not all the animals in the Peter/Brain C sample being found in the Brain B bag, and with four new sculpts in the bag, we have to assume we may still be looking for more poses in the 'whole' set?

I must confess I can't now remember which of Brian C or Peter these came from either, I suspect Brian? Some seem to be meant to be pencil-tops, but the hole is a little small, so unless they came with some narrower pencils (for colouring?) it might be part of the production process or that they once had stands of some kind, none of the possibilities account for the fact that two have no hole, however?

If you found it on its own, you'd think the seal was from a newer 'China' set, but together as a group they obviously have some age, and each has a capital-letter marking but nothing else.

Modern rack-toy, although technically only 'pocket money' toy being that most annoying of phenomena, the Blind Bag. Also, they are not cheap, but still around in Sainsbury's and McColl's (Martin's) I think, possibly on a second series now? I bought one when I was feeling flush, just over a year ago, as a sample.

The models are very good though, AND - being manufactured from a cold, clammy silicon type polymer - are very, very fish-like, lying cold and 'damp' in your hand as if you've just pulled it out of the ocean! Decoration on the other hand is on the cheap-side!

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
The whale (it's not a country Mr. Trump!) definitely came from Brian Carrick, and is a lot of fun, it's obviously a bath toy aimed at younger kids/infants, and is a sort of hybrid between the larger krill-feeders with a hint ('attempt' is too kind a word!) at killer whale in the markings, but for HO pirates, I can see a future for it! It's a blow-mould/squeezy toy, and may once have had a squeak, but is silent now!

The resin block may have been a charity shop purchase, or it may have come in with a mixed lot. Similar in execution to the commoner fridge magnets, it's reminded me there are a few on the side of the boiler, I'll shoot them and tack-them on at the end of this post . . . as if they were there all along!

Colouring on the fish is very clever; it's all technique (air-brush and sweeping brush-strokes) which come together very realistically.

I think the blow-fish and the yellow sea-horse are Phidal, although from which movie is anyone's guess; unless they have small children in which case they will not only know which movie, but the characters' names and songs! But with The Little Mermaid, Dory and the other one, if you don't have little kids your guess is as good as mine!

But the blow-fish is not terribly cartoony, so can go with all the other fish, even the sea-horse isn't that daft; eyes maybe? The other sea-horse is an older polyethylene one, probably from a rack-toy type set.

This set - currently being offered on Amazon under an Aneco branding - seems to pull elements (or actual models) from several other sets for a 44 piece-count (although the meta-data says 56 pieces!). You can recognise several of the sculpts seen above, and some from the next image below, but whether they are copies, or bought-in from several contract-manufacturers and offered as 'a set' is open to closer investigation of the contents.

An investigation I'm not going to do as they weren't cheap enough! Which is not to say they weren't reasonable, but priced as a birthday-present rather than a going-home or trip-to-the-dentist gift! They also do similar large bags of insets, dinosaurs and farm or zoo animals. Note; the old Britains seaweed piracy from the Mini Sets has been given a make-over!

This is from D&D Distribution's catalogue, last year, and has some animals similar to the Aneco set above and a couple similar to other sets.

As I've explained in similar posts in past RTM's (so apologies if you've read this before!), a lot of the old Hong Kong (now just 'CHINA') manufacturers have a catalogue of 'standard' products which they take round the international Toy Fairs and then contractors (shippers, importers, jobbers) or contracting brands like Hasbro, Mattel or Tomy can grab a sort of 'Pick & Mix' to make up cheaper sets, or provide a few trees, rocks or barbed-wire in a higher-end play set or whatever.

Here the D&D mix is probably from one source, in the case of the Aneco bag I suspect several manufacturers were approached?

Another one from Mr. Berke across the pond, four cetaceans and two sharks (I think, otherwise it may be 3 and 3?), the old 1970's sculpt of flat tree (or a sub-copy) and the space-occupying blow-moulded rock!

Branded to Toy Major they should be available this side of the pond too; if you look around.

Funnily-enough I was only talking about TM the other day with Peter Evans who told me that Toy Major still offer a Sale-or-Return to their sub'ies, which has otherwise all but disappeared from the industry (it used to be the norm), which gives them an advantage over the Jaru's, Henbrandt's, Imperial's, Lloyd's, PlayWrite's and Grossman's of this world as a sub-contractor/end-user knows they can get their money back if the line tanks.

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
These are definitely not rack-toys! Also from Brain B, these were in Scully & Scully's window, probably with a pretty price on them, but then - they are very pretty!

I think the one on the left is porcelain, but it could be enamelled silver or brass, while the one on the right looks silver too, but may be a Christmas ornament-type glass blowing? You can just see an equally exquisite sea-anemone off to the right. When I win the lottery, I shall be putting my order in, I just need to start buying lottery tickets . . . Doh!

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
Recent additions (Chris Smith and charity shops) include an Iwako or similar dolphin and Safari elephant seal with a generic tortoise and one half of a similar animal, who, if it had its other half, would be a novelty 'snapper' I think.

There should be a red crab here which came in the other week but I seem to have sorted it into that strangest of zones; the god-knows-where box! It can wait for next time; it can't have gone far?

44 Pieces; 45644; 56 Pieces; Aneco; Angel Fish; Bagged Toy; Blow Fish; Creature of the Ocean; Creatures of the Sea; Creatures of the World; D&D Distribution Inc.; DeAgostini; Dolphin; Fish and Coral; Fish Tank Model; Fish Tank Ornament; Fish Tank Toy; Imperial Toys; Ocean Animals; Ocean Fish; Ocean Sea Life; Old Plastic Toys; Piranhas & Co.; Plastic Toy; Plastic Toy Figures; Plastic Toys; Predatory Fish; Red Tailed Catfish; Reef Fish; Scully & Scully; Scully And Scully; Sea Creatures; Sea Life; Sea Lions; Sealife; Sharks; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; TM; Toy Major; Toymajor; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Sea Life Toys; Whales;
As well as four fridge magnets I'd forgotten there was another full one on top of the boiler, this one being painted wood pegged into a lump of resin coral. One of them is a glossy finish and I couldn't not get a reflection, but this was the best shot! It's a ceramic or terracotta to the resin or 'polystone' of the other three.

Thanks to Brian B, Brian C and Peter Evans for large chunks of the above, Chris Smith, Adrian Little and Jim for bits-&-bobs along with anyone else who passes odds and sods to the Blog, it's all appreciated, even if; as in the case of sea-life or insects; a bit occasional in the posting - saving now for the next round-up; two have already come-in!

News, Views Etc . . . Khaki Infantry Page - CMV

I've added the CMV stuff previously seen here to the above mentioned page, but as I don't think I did anything with the images in the end and only tweaked the blurb, this'll only be of interest to you if you didn't download it last time! But now it's there too, and thanks to Brian berke and Chris again for the images.

T is for Two - Novelty Rack Toys

This is just clearing junk from Picasa, but . . . they are both figural, fun, quality junk!

From Accoutrements, possibly via Archie McPhee (I made-up an order from them back in the 1990's when they (and BuM) were carrying the Giant re-issues) comes this set of Hula dancers on swizzle-sticks.

One day I'll get them out and cut a couple off to base them as stand-alone figures, but for now they stay-put. About 25mm and a polypropylene type polymer.

These expandable toys fall into two categories; fun stocking fillers for kids at Christmas and Stag/Hen stuff, this is really from the latter, and after an explosion of them in the early-1990's they faded a bit, but the novelty and gift section of Waterstone's is still good for a selection of Nun's, Escorts and Body-builders!

Crap photograph not helped by the expanding foam figurine being in an orange-red, the worst of all colours to shoot! 40mm dry . . . 100+ wet . . . 'ish! Now defunct Marshall's of the West Country were the importer on this one.

I is for Inclusion

I will add a new tag for this post: 'Inclusion Toy', as I have a whole tub of these somewhere with dinosaurs, sea-life, soldiers, N-gauge parachutists* and others with a few brands, but this one stayed on its card and is in with a bunch of other rack-toys we've been working through this RTM.

* They're real fun, between 1 and 5 tiny little almost-stick figures, doing various arrangements of free-fall display above small, aerial-view, photograph-discs also included a few millimeters below the figures.

Obviously the trope here is that a very small (about 1:76th) figure is set into the bouncy-ball, in this case along with a tiny football about the size of a pin-head.

While the branding is more problematical, as it's credited to 'England' (the team), Via the Football Association (FA), with the addition of Hy-Pro (an 'outdoor manufacturer'?) but there will be some management/publicity firm behind that, and they will have commissioned the artifact (along with mugs and t-shirts et al) from a third party who will have approached the same contract-manufacturers as every other rack-toy wholesaler!

The figure (as with all these inclusion balls) appears to be around 1:72nd scale, but that is the magnifying effect of the clear sphere of polymer surrounding it, when you dig them out they are always smaller. Memory suggests we did look at one some time ago - a dinosaur, or a sea lion? If I can find it, I'll tag it with the new tag, and I can build on the tag in the future, when I find the rest.

F is for French Rack Toys

We looked at this very briefly back at the beginning of the Blog, so it's time for a closer look or a reminder, rack-toy, plastic, French . . . but not!

1:72nd; 1:72nd Scale Figures; Carded; Carded Rack Toy; Carded Toy; Dime Store Toy; French Wings; Jet Fighters; Les Ailes Francaises; Made In France; Matelotes; Old Plastic Figures; Old Plastic Toys; Parachutist; Paratrooper; Plastic Airmen; Plastic Sailors; Plastic Toy Aeroplanes; Rack Toy MOC; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; The Wings of France; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Plastic Toys;
Les Ailes Francaises; 'The Wings of France'! Only, they all have British roundels! We saved them in 1914, we tried to save them in 1940 (but they didn't want saving and left us on the beach with 600,000 of their own troops!) and now it seems we helped save their toy industry in the 1950's! And what thanks do we get? Stroppy De Gaulle, "Rosbiffes" and 'English Overcoats' - charming!

[For the dimwitts in the PSTSM and Vichy - the above paragraph is meant to be humour]

Yeah! They 'aint British that's for sure, what appear to be two matelotes and a Tin Tin style paratrooper! Below them the confirmatory marking; MADE IN FRANCE (in English!), so only flown by Brit's?

Three views of the 'plane, it has no obvious means of propulsion, but is best described as a generic jet-fighter/trainer type of the mid-late 1950's. As far as I know it has no US (Lido, Banner &etc.) or British (Tudor Rose et al.) antecedent, and is a wholly French design, but Manurba and Siku were also producing this kind of thing, around the same time, so a mould-share can't be ruled-out?

I sometimes get bored sorting Blog posts (how dare I!) and have a play in Picasa with the rudimentary 'instant' effect tools. This is the result of one of those plays, and I was quite pleased with it, which I think looks like an Art Deco mural or mosaic of the kind you might find in Underground tube-stations (Metros, U-bahns). By-the-by it also manages to correct several of the roundels - see; the Brit's helping the French again!

Will we ever get to go off into the wilderness and be ourselves again . . . oh . . . well-done Boris you fucking cockwomble!

News, Views Etc . . . Dancing Dolls Page - Contribution

I've added a nice contribution from Brian Wagstaff (near the bottom of the page) and some more Scot's dancing 'Gerrils' (in their section) to the above mentioned page

Dolls! - Rush Job!

F.A.O. is for Kaster Kit

Or; 'From Our Archive'! A couple of cuttings saved for the hobby by James Chase showing what lengths kids might have to, or be made (by practical-minded parents) to go to -  to create cheap armies - before the advent of rack toys!

To be honest, your time will be betterspent going here where the story is both fuller and better-illustrated! But I do mutter "Everything will be here in the end - if I live long enough", and to that end and because I've faffed about with the images and carried the cuttings around for 14-odd years I'm posting it anyway, but the link tells the story proper!

2024 - The link seems to have been hijacked by some click-aggregator's shite, so there's nothing there now? This (below link) doesn't say much more than me, but does have some good images!

Available from FAO Schwarz, this cutting probably dates from the 1950's, but could be from slightly earlier or later; Mr. Chase's archive (and collection) dated from just before the war through to about 1977, although [I understand] he continued to be active in the hobby until his passing in the mid-2010's, his collection - which filled a Christie's and an SAS's sales - seems to have petered out around the time of the 'modern age', as all the old names were folding. The mould prices will be a clue?

I've had to enhance the photocopies which were made on a rudimentary - probably Xerox - machine sometime in the 1950's or '60's, by pushing the contrast up and deepening the shadows, I wonder if these ever come on the market in a workable state, although they have been replaced by lightweight and safer/more reliable ones - I have one (a modern one) somewhere; odd-lot at auction as it happens; with Prinze August Ericsson moulds!

The illustrated moulds above look pretty generic and solids as opposed to the unillustrated hollow-cast 'slush' moulds. I think one or two (Indian and elephant?) were available here through Agasee, or 'copies of'! AC Gilbert's Kaster Kit - anyone got one? Still using it?

This was going to post weeks ago and I even thought I had posted it in one eMail conversation, but I hadn't, as having found the link above, I realised I had a finished casting (I've probably got several, but this one stood out) of the sailor, so held the article until I could find him again, which I did.

As he turned-up in the UK I imagine he's actually been cast from the Agasee home-casting mould No.163 Sailor Saluting, but it's nice to be able to tie them (Agasee, Gilbert and Schwarz) all in together! And - of course - it's the same Gilbert as the later rack-toy imports of James Bond we looked at twice a week or so ago!

M is for More Model Power!

It was when titling the folder for the Model Power HO rack-toys (looked at earlier today) the other day and watching it default to 'Model Power_1' that I knew there was something wrong! I had a hidden 'Model Power' folder in Picasa, with two sets Ed Burg sent me ages ago, so first an apology to Ed for not Blogging them sooner, and second, let's look at them now!

I feel doubly guilty as I believe Ed went out and bought these especially as part of an exchange, I'd mentioned railway figures in passing in an eMail as I'd noticed he was thinning out his Marx and . . . whoever (Aurburn?) in a post on his Blog a few days earlier, then these turned-up! And he's chosen carefully to find two very different but interesting sets.

They are O-gauge or 027, which is a strange railway system where the rolling stock is nominally scaled to 1:64th (even more confusingly - 1:64th is US HO in the die-cast and slot-racing world!), while the figures are scaled to 40mm which is also O-gauge compatible, although strictly 1:45th, usually referred to as 1:48th . . . if I've understood it all right; basically they are O-Guage model-railwy, 40mm figures!

In fact I feel triply guilty as I have an O-Gauge set from ................... in ............. which he sent to the Blog a decade ago and which isn't even in Picasa yet - I keep meaning to do a Preiser versus Merten O-guage post and have never quite got round to it, both boxed are so full it's hard work dealing with one let alone two, and when I did the wagons and things a few years ago I put off the O-stuff!

Set No. 6193 Prisoners (Black & White Stripes); suggests other colour-ways are probably available, and looking at the HO-gauge compatible 'Roco' and Chinatroop sets earlier only reinforces that suspicion. In this style of uniform they are pretty-much 'steam era', but you can re-paint them to any, or your local prison or penitentiary!

All the tropes of a jail or gaol are covered, we have a Hispanic 'gang-banger' doing weights, a guy contemplating his crime with a ball and chain, two guys in a chain-gang (or are they digging a break-out tunnel . . . it's your layout, you decide!), someone waiting to see the governor with his hands cuffed behind his back and a Hannibal Lector type in full chains waiting for supper and a nice Chianti . . . ffth'ffth'ffth'ffth'ffth'ffth!

The other set is also interesting being the modern take on a set which - had it existed forty years ago - would probably once have contained all national postal workers, but which now covers the full gamut of people who come to your door these days.

The figures include a traditional postal worker in blue uniform, a UPS guy in brown, an internet gig'er on moped, a US Mail (?) guy with trolley and an owner-driver in jeans and a T-shirt subbing for a major carrier. You also get a posting 'stand' (pillar-box) and one of those uniquely-American end-of-the-garden-path post/newspaper holders, with the little tin flag (that gets flipped-over if there's something in it) printed on it.

The reverse of the card gives a hint at the range of sets available in this scale/size and the most interesting one is the Santa Land one, clearly designed to do seasonal front lawn or garden (front yard over there) displays of the 'full Griswold' type! But they look familiar . . . however we'll wait 'till Christmas for that one!

And many thanks to Ed for these two.

R is for Roco as Rack Toys

Should be an F is for Follow-up really, but there you go! Totally forgot these when looking at the others a few weeksback so we'd better look at them now!

They're not actually Roco-minitanks, but may be supplied by them or licensed from them, I just don't know. Model Power usually source their stuff from China, but - unlike the O-Gauge sets - these have no origin indicated so it's anyone's guess.

Issued as four sets, in green or tan, these are all 'peaceful' poses taken from the previously looked-at Roco sets based on the Monogram/Revell kit sets, and designed purely to enhance a model railway layout (or 'model railroad' layout, they're American after all!) by wandering around the landscape or concourse, or load the vehicles in it; the seated figures.

If you want violence on your railway layout, you can have it! I'm guessing 5697 is the same set in green or tan, but these guys (over-scale at 1:72nd) are dressed like the internal security services of some former Soviet republic circa 1999!

They are scale-downs of the common small scale rack-toy figures from the 1990's, being Airfix Para's and US infantry, originally 1:32nd scale and given generic 'piss-pot' helmets. The artwork hints at an assortment of poses going to at least an 11-count, with the Para's Bren-gunner, officer and kneeling firer also available - they certainly were in the standard, unpainted, rack-toy sets.

Painting is limited here, to a bit of black on boots and weapons and some flesh spotted on hands and face.

Want a couple of women for your Wild West town or ACW army and not got enough Merten or Preiser? There are two in this 'historical' set from the more conventional range of railway accessories, while the engineer with shovel would fit any era, as would the driver.

Although in the case of ACW armies, who'd take a baby to a battle! Yet, prior to the 20th century; battles were lost for the crowds of onlookers getting in the way of the manoeuvring!
