About Me

I’m a 60-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

SKYBIRDS

The vast majority of boyhood toy soldier collections that I have seen dating from the later 1930s to the Second World War have a residue of Skybird figures in the bottom of the carton.

The whole period of rearmament in Britain was closely mirrored by the toys available in the shops, at that time provided by Britains, Hill, Taylor and Barrett, Crescent, Meccano Dinky, Astra and even Elastolin and Lineol. Not least among these were Skybirds, the pioneers of 1/72 scale aircraft modeling.

Alfred James Holladay, the leading light of the Skybird range, was no stranger to the toy industry. He had been in the trade since 1893, the year that Britains started making toy soldiers. In the Boer War, he enlisted in the City Imperial Volunteers. After he came home, he joined the wholesale firm of C. F. Eckhardt, and may well have commissioned the famous Army Supply Corps two-wagon set from Britains, which had an escort of marching City Imperial Volunteers.

In 1916, he bought out the company and changed its name to A. J. Holladay. He remained a successful toy wholesaler right up until the Second World War, and as such developed the Skybirds as exclusive product for his business. In this he was ably helped by James Hay Stevens, a precocious teenager born in 1913, whose first love was toy soldiers, and who had been drawn into aeromodelling at the age of ten when he lamented the fact that Britains as yet produced no models of aircraft. At first, he modeled in 1/36 scale, close to the size of his soldiers. When he ran out of space in this size, he decided to halve his scale to 1/72nd.

Enthusiasm for aviation in the early 1930s was at its peak during a period when many famous manufacturers were bringing out ambitious new aircraft on the urging of government inspired plans, both military and civil. The proving of air routes and the excitement of record breaking flights and air races engendered the right atmosphere to sell aviation toys.

When James Stevens started to cast around for a suitable way to earn a living, and met James Holladay, the energy unleashed by the meeting between the seasoned entrepreneur and the eighteen year old enthusiast was almost instantaneous. Stevens was a brilliant draftsman, designer and modeller, designing and prototyping at least seventy-three issued aircraft kits in 1/72nd scale between 1932 and 1942 made out of wood and metal parts.

He also had a major part in devising and developing the amazing number of airfield buildings, personnel, vehicles and accessories that made Skybirds into the addictive collectable that more than held its own with the likes of Dinky and Frog, and was to be the forerunner of Airfix and every other manufacturer of 1/72nd scale aircraft. My old friend Algy Sinclair, without whose ‘Skybird Notes’ it would have been impossible to write this article, claimed that ‘no range as comprehensive had been made before or has been since’.

Each kit took between three and six months to develop, with Stevens closely in touch with the manufacturers and the Air Ministry to glean every possible detail of the prototype in advance, as much as security would allow. The issue of the first kit was coordinated with the record breaking solo flight of Amy Johnson to Cape Town in July 1932. The box artwork for the De Havilland Puss Moth by Stevens shows the G-ACAB aircraft ‘Desert Cloud’ that Amy Johnson flew, and it looks to me like her flight helmeted face that features in the titling, and continues to appear on subsequent early kits.

At that time the aviation community was still relatively small. Stevens and Holladay were right in the thick of it. Many famous personalities agreed to honorary enrollment in the Skybird League organized by Holladay to publicise and support the range. W.E.Johns of ‘Biggles’ fame, A.V.Roe, Geoffrey De Havilland, Amy Johnson and C.W.A. Scott, winner of the MacRobertson England-to-Australia Air Race all accepted Honorary Membership.

Holladay’s proudest memory of his Skybird venture was that many of his Skyleaguers, with his encouragement, joined the Air Training Corps from 1941 to become part of the backbone of RAF aircrew from 1941 to 1945. At the end of this period there were 18,000 Skyleaguers enrolled, which gives a measure of Skybirds popularity.

J is for Japanese Highlander - Black Watch!

Title says it all!

100mm Highlander Figurine; Black Watch; Foreign Import; Highland Toy Figure; Highlander; Imported Plastic Figure; Japanese Celluloid Toy; Japanese Novelty Toy; Japanese Toy; Japanese Toy Soldier; Japanses Toy; Made in Japan; Plaster Filled Celluloid Toy; Scots Soldier; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com;
100mm, plaster-filled, blow-moulded, celluloid lump of Crimean warrior (the French were actually on our side in that one, probably why it went so badly! No offence Berthoux!), or colonial era 'type'.

I guess these were sold as cheap ornaments to poorer - yet house-proud - citizens wanting a [patriotic] bit of 'Meissen' or 'Spode' for the mantle-piece/shelf, or perhaps as 'ersatz' polymer fair-ground prizes (fairings)?

H is for Highland Odds & Sods!

Having seen Hong Kong's novelty Highlander production earlier this morning, this is a group of the less common piracies of the every-day figures, although they may mostly also have been aimed at the tourist market - tuning-up in ones every time; not the handful's those commoner pastel-maroon 'Empire Made' and HK copies from the 1950's do.

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; Britaish Hong Kong; British Infantry; Drum Major; Drummer; Empire Made; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Made in Hong Kong; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Soldiers; Scots Troops; Scottish Highlanders; Scottish Infantry; Scottish Troops; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
The three on the left seem to share an origin (other than the Herald donor), having many similarities, but work has been done to differentiate them, particularly the Busby, but also - of course - the base-plate of a three part tool and the weapon arm.

The Drummer is channelling the Britains Hong Kong drummer, even to being PVC glued to a green base! While the fifth figure may be a clean example of the figures we saw here, he is also PVC and both figures look later and are heavier copies, possibly hand-done rather than pantograph, and sharing an origin?

Markings are; from the left:

Made in British Hong Kong
Empire Made
Empire Made (ink-stamped or tampo-printed)
[blank]
Made in Hong Kong

Note: that first one is marked the same as the grenade thrower added to the 'Khaki Infantry' page yesterday.

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; Britaish Hong Kong; British Infantry; Drum Major; Drummer; Empire Made; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Made in Hong Kong; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Soldiers; Scots Troops; Scottish Highlanders; Scottish Infantry; Scottish Troops; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
Compared to their donor-sculpts, with the marching guy I've shown an early Lee Enfield armed Herald figure (far left) and a Britains Hong Kong PVC lump next to him.

N is for Novelty Highlanders!

Let's get the oddities out of the way first!

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; British Infantry; Dewar's Whiskey; Dewar's White Label; Fridge Magnet; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Made in Hong Kong; Magnet Toy Soldiers; Magnetic Toy; Novelty Figurines; Novelty Key Ring; Novelty Pencil Sharpener; Novelty Stationary; Pencil Sharpener; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Troops; Scottish; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; White Label Whiskey; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
Alongside the Dewar's Drum Major we've seen recently and included for sizing, we have a rather nice Hong Kong piper, based on the Britains Herald pose (as most copies are) but with the novel change of headgear to a side-cap, his pipes are also further spread with a thicker connecting sash (which probably has a special name but I don't know it!) sans tassels.

Then there are three versions of key-ring, the one on the right being a heavier sculpt in a softer PVC to the other two, along with a mini-key-ring version approximately 1:72nd scale.

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; British Infantry; Dewar's Whiskey; Dewar's White Label; Fridge Magnet; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Made in Hong Kong; Magnet Toy Soldiers; Magnetic Toy; Novelty Figurines; Novelty Key Ring; Novelty Pencil Sharpener; Novelty Stationary; Pencil Sharpener; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Troops; Scottish; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; White Label Whiskey; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
The three larger key rings with the Herald donor; I converted the first one years ago, although a full'ish 54mm, with no base he always looked a bit smaller and hung around even while I was a small scale 'purist', I used to always cut the key ring away, I now realise this was a kind of sacrilege (unless you add a base maybe?) so now I leave the key ring - or whatever remains of it, as it the case of the other two!

Bog-standard tourist items in the 1970's and 1980's there must be quite a few of them or things like them around the place and I'm sure that away from our branch of the hobby there will be key-ring (-fob, -chain...) collectors with lots of paint/plastic/sculpt-variants and/or different sizes?

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; British Infantry; Dewar's Whiskey; Dewar's White Label; Fridge Magnet; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Made in Hong Kong; Magnet Toy Soldiers; Magnetic Toy; Novelty Figurines; Novelty Key Ring; Novelty Pencil Sharpener; Novelty Stationary; Pencil Sharpener; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Troops; Scottish; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; White Label Whiskey; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
As I'm equally sure the eraser/novelty-sharpener collecting people have a few more of these? I don't know where the head came from but it doesn't seem to have come from the earlier Zang/Herald chap, who has the long tapes or ribbons at the back. And his legs have veered away from the donor's design!

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; British Infantry; Dewar's Whiskey; Dewar's White Label; Fridge Magnet; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Made in Hong Kong; Magnet Toy Soldiers; Magnetic Toy; Novelty Figurines; Novelty Key Ring; Novelty Pencil Sharpener; Novelty Stationary; Pencil Sharpener; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Troops; Scottish; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; White Label Whiskey; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
No branding clue, just a simple 'HONG KONG', and again probably sold as a generic tourist trinket from the kiosks of Central London or the gift shops of lesser or second-tier museums and visitor attractions.

Britains Copies; Britains Herald; Britains Herald Highlanders; Britains Highlanders; British Infantry; Dewar's Whiskey; Dewar's White Label; Fridge Magnet; Gordon Highlanders; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Key Chains; Key Rings; Key-Fobs; Made in Hong Kong; Magnet Toy Soldiers; Magnetic Toy; Novelty Figurines; Novelty Key Ring; Novelty Pencil Sharpener; Novelty Stationary; Pencil Sharpener; Piracies; Scots Highlanders; Scots Troops; Scottish; Scottish Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; White Label Whiskey; Zang For Herald; Zang Highlanders;
I also have this in the collection, although I ask myself "Why?" every time I see it! I guess I like the clever impression of depth-of-field attained by the laser-cut laminate glued to its own background - they even line-up the shadows! A fridge magnet; it's probably still around, or quite contemporary, although I've had it for ten years or more?

News Views Etc . . . Khaki Infantry Page Update

Britains Herald; Britains Herald Khaki Infantry; Britains Khaki Infantry; British Infantry; Danish Toy Figures; Danish Toy Soldiers; Herald Hong Kong; Herald Khaki Infantry; Hong Kong; Kai Reisler; Kentoy Khaki Infantry; Kentoys; Khaki Infantry; Made in Denmark; Made in Hong Kong; Old Plastic Toy Soldiers; Old Plastic Toys; Old Toy Soldiers; Reisler; Reisler Khaki Infantry; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Speedwell; Speedwell - Trojan; Speedwell GI's; Speedwell Khaki Infantry; Timpo GI's; Timpo Khaki Infantry; Timpo Solid GI's; Timpo Toys; Trojan Khaki Infantry; Trojan Toy Soldiers; Vintage Britains Soldiers; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Plastic Soldiers; Vintage Speedwell Soldiers; Vintage Toy Figures; Vintage Toy Soldiers; Vintage Toys; Vintage Trojan Soldiers;
Finally got round to texting-up the latest tranche of images for the Khaki infantry page including the brilliant stretcher comparisons from Chris Smith, the rest of my Reisler along with a shot from the late Dave Scrivener and a Britains 'Hong Kong' shot, which have been sprinkled through the page, with the stretchers given a separate section, as the mortar's already had, but located alphabetically in the 's' slot!

H is for Happy Husky Heroes Haul Heavy something-beginning-with H's

I picked up the third (missing) pose the other day, took a bunch of photo's and sorted them to a folder, tried to name it Festival Huskies and saw it auto-correct to Festival Huskies_1, thought, "That's odd", ran a search for Festival and found I'd shot the other two ages ago . . . so we'll look at two first!

Cake Decoration Figures; Cake Decorations; Dogs; Festival; Ge-Models; Ge-Models Huskies; Gem; Gem Husky; GeModels; GeModels Huskies; Huskies; Husky; Old Farm Toys; Old Plastic Toys; Old Toy Dogs; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Plastic Animals; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Toy Dogs; Vintage Toy Figures;
The collage I did ages ago, the sitting and lying poses seem more common which may be simply co-incidence as to how I've randomly encountered them over the years, but may be down to the more delicate nature of the legs on the third pose, and while I haven't found any chalky-brittle examples, they do exist in the wider Gem/Festival oeuvre?

Cake Decoration Figures; Cake Decorations; Dogs; Festival; Ge-Models; Ge-Models Huskies; Gem; Gem Husky; GeModels; GeModels Huskies; Huskies; Husky; Old Farm Toys; Old Plastic Toys; Old Toy Dogs; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Plastic Animals; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Toy Dogs; Vintage Toy Figures;
George Musgrave sculpts; the [third!] running pose similar to the one he designed for Britains' Polar Exploration line and believed to be Festival-branded rather than Gem/Ge-Models.

Cake Decoration Figures; Cake Decorations; Dogs; Festival; Ge-Models; Ge-Models Huskies; Gem; Gem Husky; GeModels; GeModels Huskies; Huskies; Husky; Old Farm Toys; Old Plastic Toys; Old Toy Dogs; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Plastic Animals; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Toy Dogs; Vintage Toy Figures;
All a bit tatty, but they are probably half-a-century old! The thinned-down brown paint used to spray the main colour seems to adhere better, although rubbing-off over time, but the gloss-black blobs used for the eyes and ears has mostly gone, it probably started flaking before they left the workshop!

F is for Found . . . Again!

I got the Highlander box back out of the attic and dug the newer stuff out of the Historical-Colonial-Ceremonial TBS (to be sorted) box they were hiding in.

Britains Herald; Cherilea 54mm Soldiers; Cherilea Highland Bandsmen; Cherilea Plastic Bandsman; Cherilea Plastic Musician; Cherilea Toy Soldiers; Crescent 60mm Highlander; Crescent Highland Bandsmen; Drum Major; Drummers; Herald Highlander; Herald Hong Kong; Highland Bandsmen; Highland Pipes & Drums; Highland Toy Figures; Highlanders; Hilco Highland Bandsmen; Hilco Highland Pipes & Drums; Hilco Plastic Figures; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com;
Seen here with the Dewar's chap from the other day, who's been taken out of the C/D/E box to join the rest in the thematic box. The Cherilea Airfix and Timpo (et al) Napoleonic or other fighting troops don't go in here, this is just for ceremonials, both marching or attention riflemen and 'Pipes and Drums'.

Advertisement; Advertising Premiums; Bandsmen; Britains; Britains Copy; Britains Herald; Christmas; Dewar's; Drum Major; Herald Highlander; Herald Hong Kong; Highlanders; Hong Kong; Minor Makes C/D/E; Old Plastic Figures; Old Toy Soldiers; plinth; Plug-in Base; Premium Toy Figures; Premium Toy Highlander; PVC Vinyl-Rubber; Separate Arm; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Statistics; Stats; Traffic Stats; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Toy Soldiers; Whisky; White Label;
He is a good copy! I don't have a Hong Kong-for-Britains vinyl one, so we'll have to look again to make sure one day; as those HK-Britains ones were themselves 'copies' of the Herald sculpts, but I think he must be a pantographic clone!

S is for Still Going Strong

This set of three AFV's (677 Task Force Set) was really in Dinky's swan-song years, and with their simplified detailing, lack of consistent scale and plain decoration remind one somewhat of those clockwork railway 'starter sets' Hornby and Tri-Ang offered, they are only missing some track and a locomotive!

AFV; AFV's; Amphibion; Amphibious Vehicle; Cold War Era Vehicles; Daimler Armoured Car; Die Cast Toys; Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Daimler; Dinky Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Duck; Dinky DUKW; Dinky Ferret Scout Car; Dinky Toys; Duck; DUKW; Ferret Scout Car; Mazac; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Die Casts; Vintage Toys; WWII; Zamac; Zamak;
They are also some of few non-figural toys which have survived from childhood, I can well remember getting them, but I can't remember who gave them to us, however I do recall the instruction "You'll have to share them with each-other", so they must have come from a friend of the family, or a distant relative with no idea of children!

Of course - the fact they are still in MY possession, might be taken as evidence of a nefarious theft from my little brother! A big-wheeled Ferret, a Stalwart (Airfix did a bigger one, but you all know that!) and a DUKW. And while technically all 1:43rd, they seem to be a bit 'box scale'...'ish to me!

I believe the reason it's blue is because post-war, the Royal Corps of Transport (RCT) retained a few for harbour work at NATO-resupply ports like Fleetwood as part of the Army's 'navy', they were actually fitted with built-up superstructures - if memory serves; looking more like the yellow ones which were doing duck-tours for tourists in London, I don't know if they still are, following the fire/sinking a few years ago?

AFV; AFV's; Amphibion; Amphibious Vehicle; Cold War Era Vehicles; Daimler Armoured Car; Die Cast Toys; Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Daimler; Dinky Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Duck; Dinky DUKW; Dinky Ferret Scout Car; Dinky Toys; Duck; DUKW; Ferret Scout Car; Mazac; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Die Casts; Vintage Toys; WWII; Zamac; Zamak;
The reason the Ferret has a burnt-out passenger compartment is down to the fact that my brother and I found it made an excellent crucible for the disposal of left-over black-powder after whatever other nefarious (twice in one article?) use for the stuff we'd previously been indulging in!

AFV; AFV's; Amphibion; Amphibious Vehicle; Cold War Era Vehicles; Daimler Armoured Car; Die Cast Toys; Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Daimler; Dinky Dingo Scout Car; Dinky Duck; Dinky DUKW; Dinky Ferret Scout Car; Dinky Toys; Duck; DUKW; Ferret Scout Car; Mazac; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Die Casts; Vintage Toys; WWII; Zamac; Zamak;
Three generations of wheeled AFV from Dinky, I painted the one in the middle as a child, it came from a church-fete stall and its factory coat was quite chipped, although looking at it, it could do with a third go!

A is for Archive - K is for Kibri

Looking at a quick scan from the 1977-78 Kibri catalogue, it only has the one page of figures but is interesting nevertheless for being/showing the cross-over between earlier and later figure types.

HO - OO; HO - OO Farm Models; HO - OO Figures; HO Scale Model Railroad Accessories; HO-Gauge; HO-Guage; HO-OO; Kibri 20mm Animals; Kibri 20mm Figures; Kibri 6510; Kibri 6520; Kibri 6530; Kibri 6540; Kibri 6545; Kibri 6550; Kibri 6560; Kibri 6620; Kibri 6630; Kibri HO - OO Figures; Old Plastic Figures; Old Plastic Toys; OO-Gauge; Plastic Figurines; Railroad Accessories; Railroad Stuff; Railway Models; Railway Passengers; Railway Scenics; Railway Staff; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Vintage Plastic Figures; Vintage Toys;
The first three sets are the 20mm semi-flats (copied in Hong Kong) we saw here at Small Scale World a while ago, the fourth (6540) a combination of the first two - which may explain why there are more piracies of them than the poses in set 6530 - there were more available to find TO copy?

The next three sets (6545, -50 and -60) are true HO; 19mm figures, in sculpting similar to Preiser but in execution more like Roco - unpainted (or at least I think mine are unpainted; a light-sand or fawn styrene), while the two sets of animals appear to be fully painted in the style of Preiser or Merten.

They were of course all replaced by the funny little over-mould figures I sent to Plastic Warrior magazine's little brother; One Inch Warrior years ago and which re-appeared in PW itself a while ago. One way or another I think I have most of them, but before finding the carded set of semi-flats last year, and digging this out the other day, I hadn't made all the connections so they are in at least four different places.

Kibri's 1990 catalogues had workmen as good as current Preiser, with some of the vehicles listed at the back of the catalogue, which I may also have somewhere, so when I've dug them all out and brought them all together we'll have a proper 15/20 image look at them in depth, with the HK copies again; but all of them!

B is for Bijou Little Canoe

Except it's Beeju and it's a small-scale, not 'little'! I was hoping to find the other one, but I've already buried it again, so it will have to be seen another day, surface to say it's powder-blue and red if memory serves, which it usually does, but not always; it might be mint green, or even another yellow one!

American Indian; Beeju; Beeju EVB; Bijou; British Vintage Toy Canoe; EVB; EVB Bijou; Indian Canoe; Indian Kayak; Marbled Plastic Canoe; Marbled Plastic Toy; Native American; Novelty Figurine; Novelty Toy; Old Plastic Figure; Old Plastic Novelty; Old Plastic Toy; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Canoe; Toy Kayak; Vintage Plastic; Vintage Plastic Figure; Vintage Plastic Indian;
Picked this up from Adrian at the recent Sandown Park toy fair, and it's a little peach, I'm pretty sure the aforementioned 'storage' one is lacking the oar, or has a rather truncated one hanging on at the glue-points like a cross-bar!

American Indian; Beeju; Beeju EVB; Bijou; British Vintage Toy Canoe; EVB; EVB Bijou; Indian Canoe; Indian Kayak; Marbled Plastic Canoe; Marbled Plastic Toy; Native American; Novelty Figurine; Novelty Toy; Old Plastic Figure; Old Plastic Novelty; Old Plastic Toy; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Canoe; Toy Kayak; Vintage Plastic; Vintage Plastic Figure; Vintage Plastic Indian;
Full set of marks for EVB/Beeju some of who's 'planes, lorries/trucks and civilian vehicles we've seen here at SSW in the past. Hull is plain red, deck is plain yellow and sandwiched between the two . . .

American Indian; Beeju; Beeju EVB; Bijou; British Vintage Toy Canoe; EVB; EVB Bijou; Indian Canoe; Indian Kayak; Marbled Plastic Canoe; Marbled Plastic Toy; Native American; Novelty Figurine; Novelty Toy; Old Plastic Figure; Old Plastic Novelty; Old Plastic Toy; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; Toy Canoe; Toy Kayak; Vintage Plastic; Vintage Plastic Figure; Vintage Plastic Indian;
. . . is a marbled layer of the two colours mixed to make an orangey Native American and his load, which consists of a slightly relief-carved bundle of provisions, two piles of furs, a tomahawk and the hint of a rifle under the other cargo - to keep it dry of course!

A is for Archive - Finicky Fido!

Shouldn't that be finickity? Not according to spell-check; either I've been saying it wrong my whole life, or there's more than one way of saying annoyingly active!

Archival Collection; Finicky Fido; Jumps; N-231 Finicky Fido; Novelty; Novelty Plastic Dog; Performing; Performing Tricks; Plastic Dog Toy; Small Scale World; smallscaleworld.blogspot.com; ToysOct-038; Tricks; Vintage Toy;
It's all in the sales blurb, a US-made or offered, spring or magnet (or spring AND magnet) novelty, trick-performing dog toy, 1950's maker and retailer unknown!
