I’m a 62-year-old Aspergic gardening CAD-Monkey. Sardonic, cynical and with the political leanings of a social reformer, I’m also a toy and model figure collector, particularly interested in the history of plastics and plastic toys. Other interests are history, current affairs, modern art, and architecture, gardening and natural history. I love plain chocolate, fireworks and trees, but I don’t hug them, I do hug kittens. I hate ignorance, when it can be avoided, so I hate the 'educational' establishment and pity the millions they’ve failed with teaching-to-test and rote 'learning' and I hate the short-sighted stupidity of the entire ruling/industrial elite, with their planet destroying fascism and added “buy-one-get-one-free”. Likewise, I also have no time for fools and little time for the false crap we're all supposed to pretend we haven't noticed, or the games we're supposed to play. I will 'bite the hand that feeds', to remind it why it feeds.

Z is for Zulus

Something a little different today, and to be honest a rather unloved corner of the collection, as I do have most of the Lone Star and Charbens African Warriors, if not all of them, somewhere, and unpainted versions of the Marx reissues, seen below, but they don't seem to have got a decent outing here at Small Scale World? Trying to redress that omission slightly, I bought a small sample of mostly home-painted figures from Adrian a while ago, ostensively for the Fontanini chaps, and this is they!

Both Zulu and 'African Warriors' are used pretty loosely in this post, as the whole subject has been equally unloved by the trade, with most examples being pretty fantastical, rather than based on any historical or cultural accuracy, more Hollywood than high accuracy!

Five of six, in PVC, with number two missing, and he'll be a bugger to find on his own, these come-up quite infrequently!  They are the smaller 45/50mm version, but I say that not knowing if they have larger versions, as the Fontanini dancers and pirates do?

Paint conversions from a Cherilea (54mm Indian) and Toyway (Egyptian).

Marx reissues, these were very Hollywood, coming with a bunch of White Hunters/explorers to serve, but aren't actually that bad, sompared to some out there!

I think this is the far more accurate Zulu rendition from A call to Arms, and having said I haven't done them justice in the past, this is a bit of a rush-job/box ticker, too, but I have to go to work!
